Sorry Lumia users: Microsoft breaks its Windows 10 Mobile upgrade promise

Some sad news for Windows Phone users. Although Microsoft had earlier promised that all Lumia Windows Phone 8 devices would receive Windows 10 very soon, it’s going back on it’s own promised word.

A report by The Verge points out that Microsoft started rolling out Windows 10 Mobile to existing Lumia devices this week, and revealed that handsets such as the Lumia 920 and Lumia 1020 will be stuck on Windows Phone 8.

Microsoft’s website had promised that several listed devices would be “first” to upgrade, resulting to that other devices would be “second” in line. Sadly, the company said that there will be no “second wave” of upgrades, and that third party devices that weren’t on the list also won’t make the cut either.

Officially supported Lumia devices include Lumia 1520, Lumia 930, Lumia 830, Lumia 730, Lumia 735, Lumia 640, Lumia 640XL, Lumia 635 1GB, Lumia 636 1GB, Lumia 638 1GB, Lumia 540, Lumia 535, Lumia 532, Lumia 435 and Lumia 430.

Windows Phone users are more angry at the fact that Microsoft has, for the second time in a row, broken its promise. Earlier, Windows Phone 7 handsets were never upgraded to Windows Phone 8, and Microsoft had explained that this would not repeat again in the future. Another broken promise is bad news for a mobile operating system that is practically dead, and once again Microsoft has angered its small, but loyal base of Windows Phone users, points out the report.
