New Logo for Microsoft Edge
Microsoft Edge will replace Internet Explorer as the default web browser for its latest desktop and mobile operating system, Windows 10. Internet Explorer has long been the butt of many jokes and the frustration of any living designer, coder, and developer, and its e-planet icon is one of the most well-known internet logos so for someone like me who has made many jokes at Explorer's expense and has been frustrated by it as a living designer and light coder I find it interesting/perplexing/unexpected that Microsoft would want any kind of affiliation with its browser's past. If the idea is to signal that this is a whole new kind of browser — and based on the video it sure looks like it — communicating that this is sort of like the old one is a bad strategy. What I see in the new logo is an evolution of the Internet Explorer experience not a revolution on the Windows 10 web browsing experience. Strategy aside, the new logo is kinda wonky. I will admit that the curves and actual execution are pretty good — it's well constructed — but the core idea and structure feel unbalanced and makes the "e" appear as if it's about to fall backwards. I also keep thinking "hipster hairdo".
