Microsoft Edge Vs. Google Chrome

Microsoft's new web browser is up to 112% faster than Google Chrome Google's Chrome web browser is the most popular web browser in the world right now,  according to StatCounter . But Microsoft's new web browser for Windows 10, called Edge, might prove to be superior. In a  Windows blog post  on Wednesday, Gabe Aul, Microsoft's head of the Windows Insider program, announced a new set of benchmarks for Microsoft Edge, the company's new web browser made for Windows 10. Microsoft Edge showed significant performance gains over Google Chrome, but what's most impressive is that Microsoft used benchmarks created by Apple and Google: Edge was tested using Google Octane, Apple JetStream, and WebKit Sunspider. That last one is actually a benchmark created by Apple's WebKit development team that's intended for the iOS, Mac, and Windows versions of Safari, Apple's web browser. According to the benchmark results, Microsoft Edge was 112% faster than

Google Takes A Big Step

Google's Next Android Feature Could Give it a Big Advantage Over Apple's iPhone Google is about to give Android smartphones a new feature, one that could make owners of Apple's iPhone jealous. The next version of  Google 's  Android operating system will add a fairly radical feature, one that could give Android-powered smartphones a competitive advantage over  Apple 's iPhone. Google Now takes a big step forward This feature, known as Now on Tap, is the next step in the evolution of Google Now, Google's digital personal assistant. Google Now is already a powerful service in its own right, but on Tap should increase its value dramatically. With on Tap, Google Now will be able to analyze the information currently displayed on a user's smartphone screen. For example, Google Now will be able to field questions about a song that's currently playing: Rather than opening the Google app, searching for the band and then searching for the singer, users w

Nexus

Huawei and Google reportedly releasing a Nexus phone this fall This year, we may see a first for Google’s line of Nexus Android phones: a Chinese manufacturer.  The Information  reports that Huawei is in line to produce the device, which is said to be planned for fall. It’s not the first we’ve heard of the possibility; IBT said last month that the Huawei Nexus phone was coming, citing an employee at the company’s UK branch, while  Android Police  published a tentative rumor in May suggesting that there would be two Nexus phones this year — a 5.7-inch Huawei device and a 5.2-inch phone from LG. The relationship between Google and Huawei could be mutually beneficial beyond the phone’s co-development.  The Information  claims that talks are in progress for Huawei to help Google bring a mobile app store to China, where government regulations have restricted the search giant from conducting much business of note. Microsoft Office 2016

Microsoft releases Office 2016 for Mac, but just for Office 365 A standalone version will be released in September, Microsoft said. After years of treating the Mac as an also-ran, Microsoft has changed its tune: Microsoft formally released Office 2016 for the Mac on Thursday morning, even before it released it for Windows. The only catch? If you’re not already an Office 365 subscriber, you’ll be forced to wait until September. Bringing Office up to date The new Office suite also addresses general shortcomings with the suite that Microsoft has struggled with, regardless of platform. A good example is real-time collaboration, where users can edit a document simultaneously, rather than send it back and forth for updates and other edits. Google has offered this with its online Google Apps suite, but it’s a feature that Office has lacked until recently. Microsoft highlighted a few of the improvements that it provided for each specific Office application: in PowerPoint, for exa

Google Earth Turns 10 Today, Gets New 'Voyager' Feature On Desktop Google Earth debuted way back in 2005, long before Android existed in any meaningful way. It was a borderline magical experience at the time—you could just open a program and  see  the entire planet from orbit. Google Earth might be old news now, but Google is celebrating the anniversary with a new discovery feature. It's only on the desktop right now, but "Voyager" shows you the best things available in Google Earth. In the Voyager layer you get quick access to several different types of highlighted content. There's Street View, Earth View, 3D cities, the latest satellite imagery updates, and a highlight tour. It's not clear if this will come to the Android app at some point, but Google doesn't really update that one very often. If you're interested, you might as well check out the desktop version. Google has also taken this opportunity to expand the selection of E
